Catholic churches in HCMC to suspend services over coronavirus concern

Must read

HCMC – The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of HCMC has announced the suspension of all daily masses and religious rites starting today, May 22, in an attempt to cushion the spread of Covid-19 upon the request of the HCMC government.

Priests can still celebrate daily religious rites with a crowd of less than 20 people and have to practice social distancing.

Besides this, starting from today, daily masses at the Notre Dame Cathedral will be broadcast live so that Catholics can participate.

Churches were asked to strictly follow the health sector’s Covid-19 preventive measures such as masking, handwashing, distancing and disinfecting.

Catholics who develop symptoms of respiratory diseases or have returned from other virus-hit areas were told to self-quarantine, refrain from going out and contact the local health authorities.

This is the fourth time that churches in the city have had to suspend daily masses and religious rites to prevent the spread of the disease.
