HCMC – China’s Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping held high-level talks with Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam in Beijing today, August 19. Their talks took place during the latter’s state visit to China from August 18 to 20.
Prior to the talks, General Secretary and President Xi and his spouse hosted a welcoming ceremony in honor of General Secretary and President Lam, his spouse, and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam at the Great Hall of the People.
The ceremony took place with full state honors, including a 21-gun salute.
Among Chinese officials attending were Cai Qi, member of China’s Politburo Standing Committee, member of the Committee’s Secretariat, and Chief of the Committee’s Office; Wang Yi, member of China’s Politburo, director of the General Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, and Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Wang Xiaohong, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security.
After the meeting, the Vietnamese and Chinese leaders witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements between the two countries.
The Vietnamese leader earlier said Vietnam always attaches importance and gives top priority to growing its bilateral ties with China. The statement was made during his meeting with Secretary of the Party Committee of China’s Guangdong Province Huang Kunming on August 18.
