HCMC – Thua Thien-Hue Province on December 25 inaugurated the first domestic container transport service from/to the Chan May port.
The container transport route is aimed at boosting the port’s growth, attracting investors, facilitating exports and imports in the central region and turning the province into a hub of regional connection and logistics services.
At the inauguration, the Chan May port received the first container vessel, Hai An View, with a tonnage of over 1,570 TEUs, opening a container transport route linking Haiphong, Chan May and HCMC for the Hai An shipping line.
The domestic transport route from/to the Chan May port is expected to help firms reduce logistics costs and shorten transport time.
The Chan May port will be widened to raise its capacity and receive larger container vessels in the coming months.
Situated between Hue and Danang, Chan May is one of the seaports selected by the Asia Cruise Association as a key stop for yachts in Southeast Asia.
The port aims to receive container vessels and cargo ships of up to 70,000 tons and develop a transshipment area of 200,000 tons, a bonded warehouse and a container freight station in the coming years.
