HCMC – The Mong Cai-Dongxing international border gate in the northern province of Quang Ninh and China’s Guangxi Province suspended customs clearance from yesterday, December 21, amid Covid-19 concern in China, causing trucks transporting goods to China to be stranded.

The authority of Dongxing City recently informed its counterpart in Mong Cai City of the suspension, the Mong Cai City People’s Committee confirmed.

The Vietnam News Agency cited an announcement of Dongxing as saying that given the Covid situation in the city, immigration and customs clearance services for travelers and goods at the border gate, including at the border market and pontoon bridge, will remain suspended until further notice.

For those who had successfully made appointments on the immigration system at the border gate, if they are on the way to or have arrived in Mong Cai, they have to comply with the city’s anti-Covid measures and can opt to stay at quarantine hotels in the city to await the resumption of immigration and customs clearance at the border gate.

The Dongxing side added that there are a large number of container trucks awaiting entry and exit, leading to a long wait. Therefore, regarding goods that need to be imported or exported urgently, importers and exporters should prepare import-export plans, arrange an appropriate time for undergoing customs clearance and carefully choose a border gate for customs clearance to avoid possible losses linked to the backlog of goods.

Further, the authority of Mong Cai also informed that local importers and exporters should work out plans to transport goods to avoid the backlog at the border gate.
