HCMC – To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, all passengers arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Saigon Train Station have to take coronavirus tests from April 4.

Dr Nguyen Tri Dung, director of the HCMC Center for Disease Control, noted that coronavirus infection prevention and control measures such as health declarations and body temperature checks have been adopted at the airport and train station for a long time; mandatory coronavirus tests for all passengers is the latest measure.

The center expects some 400 passengers will be tested for coronavirus at the airport and train station each day.

Some 173 travelers were tested for coronavirus at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on April 4. If the number of arrivals at the airport increases significantly in the coming days, the city will quarantine travelers on arrival before testing them for coronavirus.

The HCMC Department of Health has identified 20 people residing in the city who visited the Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital, a flash point for coronavirus infection, since March 13.

Five of them have tested negative for the virus and the others are waiting for their test results.

The city has also identified three people in Districts 2 and 7 who had close contact with a Korean man infected with the coronavirus. They and their families have been quarantined and tested for coronavirus, with negative results in the first attempt.

As of April 5, the city had reported 53 coronavirus cases and 22 of them had recovered. The city still had over 8,260 people under quarantine.
