HCMC – The Covid-19 outbreak in Danang has been contained but the city’s government and citizens should remain vigilant, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son said at a meeting with Danang’s leaders on August 20 as he along with the Health Ministry’s team prepare to leave the city today, August 21.

Son spoke highly of the city’s efforts in dealing with the pandemic, with the management, testing and treatment capacity having improved significantly and said the city needs to continue practicing Covid-19 infection prevention and control measures.

Huynh Duc Tho, chairman of Danang City, thanked the ministry’s team for their support, especially in detecting new infections, performing tests and treating patients. The team has also guided the local authorities in dealing with the city’s Covid-19 hotspots such as the C Hospital and the Danang Hospital.

While the number of new cases in the city has fallen sharply, the city would see several new cases in the days to come.

Son and the Health Ministry’s special team have been in Danang for over one month to assist the city in dealing with the disease after it became the hardest hit locality in the country.

In the afternoon on the same day, Son held a meeting with the Health Department of Quang Nam, a neighboring province of Danang and a Covid-19 epicenter, to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the province.

As of late August 20, the province had 96 cases, which were mainly linked to hospitals in Danang. The province has been testing people coming from Danang for Covid-19 since July 1.

The deputy health minister suggested that the Quang Nam Health Department ask the Quang Nam Central General Hospital to establish a rapid-response team to receive Covid-19 patients from other hospitals and medical centers in the province.
