Covid case count jumps by over 11,500

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, February 4, reported 11,594 new Covid cases, with eight of them imported and 11,586 locally infected in 59 cities and provinces, up 3,011 cases against yesterday.

Among the domestic cases, Hanoi City as usual recorded the highest number at 2,756, followed by Danang with 1,544, Nam Dinh with 620 and Quang Nam with 594. Other localities detected fewer than 500 infections each.

The country has confirmed over 2.3 million domestic cases since the ongoing fourth wave of the Covid pandemic began in late April last year.

In addition, the country has reported 192 Omicron-hit cases in 16 cities and provinces.

Over 8,500 Covid patients were discharged from hospitals nationwide today, raising the total recoveries to more than 2.1 million.

The ministry also reported 84 Covid fatalities in 31 cities and provinces, taking the country’s Covid death toll to 38,147.

Nearly 182 million doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered nationwide. The country has seen some 74.2 million people get two shots of Covid vaccine and nearly 28.4 million people get the booster dose.

The country now has 38 cities and provinces at low risk of Covid transmission, while 23 other localities are at moderate risk and the remaining two are at high risk, according to statistics released by the ministry today.

In the northern region, 18 provinces and cities, including Hanoi and Bac Giang, are at low risk of Covid spread, while the central region has Binh Dinh, Binh Thuan, Khanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ninh Thuan, Phu Yen and Quang Binh at low risk.

Twenty cities and provinces in the south are at low risk, while in the Central Highlands, only Kon Tum Province is at low risk, the local media reported.

Two provinces, Tra Vinh and Binh Phuoc, are at high risk of Covid transmission.
