Daily Covid infections inch up

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, June 7, confirmed 960 new Covid infections in 41 cities and provinces, up by 158 against yesterday.

Hanoi City remained the biggest coronavirus hotspot with 192 cases, followed by Yen Bai with 67. Other provinces detected 60 infections or below each.

The country has so far had over 10.7 million Covid cases. Over 9,300 patients were declared free of the disease today, raising the total recoveries to 9.52 million, while no Covid deaths were reported.

On June 6, nearly 180,000 doses of Covid vaccines were administered, taking the total doses given to people nationwide to 222.3 million.

Hanoi City will start its fourth-shot drive this week as the city has received over 203,000 doses, a representative of the municipal Department of Health said today.

The city will give the fourth dose to people aged 50 or older, people aged 18 and older with immunodeficiency and those at risk of infection with Covid such as frontline forces and workers in industrial parks.

Meanwhile, Quang Ninh Province gave the fourth shot to 500 medical workers at the provincial general hospital today, beginning its fourth-dose rollout.

Over 370,000 people in the northern province will get the fourth shot during this drive, the local media reported.

Earlier, HCMC was the first locality to administer the fourth shot to residents. As of June 2, some 900 people had got the fourth dose, accounting for 1% of those eligible for the booster jab in the city.
