HCMC – Dalat City, a popular tourist destination in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, has introduced a plan to develop the night-time economy on a trial basis to fuel economic growth.

The hilly city would pilot a variety of night-time economic activities in two phases, the local media reported.

In 2023, the city plans to build a musical water park in the Dalat Flower Garden, a 900-meter-long food street along Tran Le Street and Hoang Van Thu Lake, and organize night-time activities across inner-city streets near the Dalat night market and Lam Vien Square.

In the 2023-2030 period, it is set to convert a 1.6-kilometer section of Tran Quoc Toan Street into a pedestrian street where locals and tourists can enjoy art performances and go shopping. The city during this period would also build a new night market near Anh Sang (Light) Park that is expected to be more modern and well-organized than the existing one along Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street.

The city would set up a night-time economic complex featuring entertainment activities, casino services, shophouses and clubhouses in the 2023-2030.

To develop the night-time economy in the years to come, the provincial government said it would call on investors to set up an entertainment area in the basement of the Dalat golf club on Tran Quoc Toan Street.

This area would offer dining, bar, cinema and game services to visitors in case activities on the pedestrian street are closed on rainy days.

The night-time economy would help ease traffic congestion in the city center, increase the income of local people and thereby improve their livelihoods, the city’s government said, adding that it would take into account possible risks and negative impacts of the night-time economy model to ensure public safety and security.
