HCMC – The four new coronavirus-positive persons discovered in Danang City have been infected with a new variant of the virus, Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long told a regular Government meeting on July 27.
Long noted that there is not enough evidence proving that the four new cases of Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, have the same source of transmission. The new variant has invaded the country from the outside, he added.
The disease could have begun spreading in Danang City from early July, he said, adding that more community transmission cases of Covid-19 are expected to be detected in the city.
The situation is predicted to develop complicatedly, with the virus spreading to other localities. As a result, the Ministry of Health has dispatched four teams to Danang City to support the city with the fight against Covid-19, Long noted.
Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stated that after detecting the first positive case of Covid-19, the 416th, following 99 consecutive days without any community transmission cases, Danang City and the ministry immediately adopted a number of measures to prevent the spread.
The city has proactively isolated some coronavirus hotspots and disinfected the areas where the positive patients live, VietnamPlus news site reported, citing the prime minister.
Danang City is also banning gatherings of over 30 people and advises travelers to leave the city as soon as possible.
The prime minister at the meeting advised everyone to stay on high alert for Covid-19 and urged the local authorities and competent agencies to work out strict measures to combat the virus.
