HCMC – The HCMC Department of Planning and Architecture has submitted a plan to organize a design contest for the An Phu intersection project in Thu Duc City to the municipal government.
According to the plan, the HCMC Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Projects will be in charge of organizing the contest, while the consulting unit for the contest will be the Architecture Research Center.
The project will be the traffic highlight for Thu Duc City’s gateway to neighboring areas.
It is necessary to complete the research and design operations for the An Phu intersection project to zone sites for clearance.
In late April this year, the People’s Council of HCMC approved the plan to develop the An Phu intersection in the 2021-2025 period, with a total investment of over VND3.9 trillion. Of the total capital, VND1.8 trillion will be sourced from the central state budget, while over VND2.1 trillion will come from the city’s coffers.
When in place, the An Phu intersection would help ease traffic congestion at the start of the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway, which connects HCMC and neighboring Dong Nai Province.
In 2025, when the Long Thanh International Airport project in Dong Nai Province is put into operation, traffic on the expressway would rise strongly. As such, the An Phu intersection would facilitate traffic flow between the city and Long Thanh airport.
The intersection acts as a link between Mai Chi Tho Avenue and the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway and Luong Dinh Cua Street.
Let us hope that motorcyclists are considered in the design stage and not an afterthought that seems to be the case in so many road designs.
