HCMC – Vietnam’s inspection agencies have uncovered economic violations resulting in over VND157 trillion in damages in 2024, officials announced during an annual conference on December 28 in Hanoi.

The Government Inspectorate also identified land-related violations involving 245 hectares. A total of 269 cases implicating 173 individuals were referred to the police for further investigation, according to Duong Quoc Huy, deputy inspector general of the Government.

The inspection sector conducted 6,673 administrative inspections and 118,983 specialized inspections throughout the year. Administrative measures were recommended for 2,360 organizations and 9,017 individuals.

The agency’s report outlined challenges in recovering misappropriated funds and assets, citing delays in enforcing post-inspection recommendations. It also highlighted slow progress in updating legal frameworks based on inspection findings.

Concerns were raised about officials failing to adhere to public consultation requirements and ongoing bureaucratic obstacles impacting citizens and businesses. Efforts to identify corruption within the inspection agencies themselves were noted as insufficient.

The report called for further reforms to address these shortcomings, enhance transparency, and bolster public trust in government operations.
