HCMC – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) today, November 15, launched a project to reduce pollution in cooperation with Winrock International and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The project is expected to be carried out in five years with an estimated budget of US$11.3 million.

It aims to support Vietnam’s efforts to address environmental pollution challenges through a collective impact approach.

A collective impact is an approach designed to deal with complex challenges by mobilizing diverse actors to collaborate, identify ways to solve a shared problem and take action based on their roles and comparative advantages.

Through this framework, the project could strengthen the networks of local organizations, the government, the private sector and academic institutions working together to prevent, mitigate and reduce environmental pollution.

The project represents the first milestone in efforts to raise environmental awareness and encourages locals to run environmental remediation campaigns, helping the country achieve its COP26 commitments, said Aler Grubbs, director of USAID Vietnam.

This is also evidence of the effective collaboration between USAID and the ministry on addressing climate change and environmental pollution.

Earlier, USAID and MONRE formalized their partnership in addressing the complex challenges of climate change and environmental pollution through a memorandum of understanding on January 28.

At the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Glasgow, Scotland, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh announced Vietnam’s strong commitments to responding to climate change by declaring the goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
