ETC systems to be set up at airports

The Saigon Times

Must read

HCMC – Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems will be installed at all entrance gates to airports to tackle congestion and flight disruptions.

According to the department, the ETC systems would facilitate airports’ internal traffic flow.

As such, airports will have to invest in ETC systems.

This is part of a plan of the Transport Ministry to address congestion, flight delays and cancellations.

At the same time, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) was asked to install more cameras in front of airports and supervise automobile parking.

Given the standstill at the luggage scanning area, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The urged the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) to set up an inspection team at the key airports and add more modern scanners.

Airports were asked to control boarding and landing slots based on the capacity of the terminals.

CAAV will keep a close watch on the unused slots and strictly follow the regulations on slot allocation.

The also said that the ground service staff was not doing their best to provide an optimal luggage retrieval service after landing.

To address the situation, more labor, service and operation plans would be added to better the performance, especially during holidays such as September 2 and the Lunar New Year.

Over the past eight months, Vietnam’s aviation sector has quickly recovered. The number of domestic flights spiked, with a volume of 76.5 million passengers, up 136% year-over-year. August alone saw 11.5 million passengers, up 473%.

However, this summer saw an increasing number of flight delays and cancelations.

Moreover, people stuffed inside security scanning areas and the sluggish release of passengers and goods have frustrated travelers.
