HCMC – Work on the Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho underpass has been in progress for two years and is expected to be fully completed at the end of 2023.

The first phase of the Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho underpass project started in April 2020, with a total investment of VND830 billion.

According to the design, the project will have a 60-meter-diameter roundabout, two underpasses and access roads connecting to Nguyen Van Linh Street.

The underpasses at the interchange of the Nguyen Van Linh and Nguyen Huu Tho Streets will have three traffic lanes with a design speed of 60kph and a width of 14 meters.

In the second phase, the interchange with two underpasses and overpasses will be completed, requiring an estimated VND1,780 billion.

A representative of the Management Board for Traffic Works Construction and Investment said the first bidding package, including the underpass HC1 and side roads, had its temporary roads completed and trees relocated.

Due to heavy traffic in the area, work on the first package was suspended until the completion of the underpass HC2.

Meanwhile, the second bidding package, including underpass HC2 and a pumping station, is in progress and 65% completed. The underpass HC2 will be implemented in April 2023.

Work on the relocation of the 220kV high voltage cable line and the water supply pipes has been done. The progress is expected to be sped up after the site clearance in November and December.

The whole project is currently 35% complete and will be ready in December 2023, according to the Management Board for Traffic Works Construction and Investment.

During a regular meeting on the socio-economic situation in July, Director of the HCMC State Treasury Nguyen Hoang Hai said the Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho underpass project is one of those which has been disbursed less than 10% of the total loans.

The total loan for this project is VND200 billion, while only VND9.3 billion has been disbursed, accounting for under 5%.
