EVN chosen to build thermal power plant in Can Tho

CAN THO – Can Tho City has awarded the US$1.19 billion O Mon III thermal power plant project to the State utility Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN).

The government of Can Tho has signed a decision approving the investment plan and the investor of the project.

The project has a construction area of 8,342 hectares, a capacity of 1,050 MW and a total preliminary investment of over US$1.19 billion, equivalent to around VND27,596 billion.

EVN is expected to invest VND9,226 billion into the project, while the rest will be mobilized from other sources.

The feasibility study for the power station can be approved in the fourth quarter of this year. Work on the facility will start in the first quarter of 2025 and the trial run will be carried out in the fourth quarter of 2027.

After its completion, the O Mon III thermal power plant will provide electricity for the southern region and help to ensure a stable electricity supply for the country.

EVN is also the investor in the O Mon I thermal power plant project with a capacity of 660 MW and the O Mon IV thermal power plant project with a capacity of 1,050 MW.
