HCMC – The Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to complete pricing talks on solar and wind power with investors before March 31 to put 85 power plants into operation.

Only one among 85 project investors had submitted documents and begun pricing negotiations with EVN as of March 22.

Other 84 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 4,676 MW are behind schedule for commercial operation. Among them, the construction and testing process of 34 wind and solar power projects (2,091 MW) has been completed.

At a recent meeting with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and EVN, the 84 investors proposed that EVN buy electricity at a tentative price of 6.2 cents/kWh.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued a decision regulating the power price framework in early January 2023, in which the ceiling prices for transitional solar and wind power projects are VND1,185-1,508/kWh and VND1,587-1,816/kWh, respectively, depending on the type of project.

However, EVN and other investors said that they have yet to receive special instructions on negotiation methods and directions from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
