First flight takes off to bring nearly 300 Vietnamese nationals in Ukraine back home

HCMC – The first flight evacuating 287 Vietnamese citizens from Ukraine back home is set to land at the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi City at 11.30 a.m. today, March 8.

The flight operated by Vietnam Airlines took off at 7.35 p.m. (local time) on March 7 from the Henri Coandă international airport in Romania’s capital city of Bucharest, the local media reported.

Among the 287 people evacuated from Ukraine, which is witnessing a military conflict with Russia, 85 are children under 12.

The number of Vietnamese nationals leaving Ukraine for Bucharest is dropping. Vietnam is set to launch another flight to transport other Vietnamese nationals in Bucharest back home on March 10.

As of 6.00 p.m. on March 7, some 2,200 Vietnamese citizens had been evacuated from Ukraine to Poland, while 830 others had left the war zone for Romania, 310 people had traveled to Hungary, and Slovakia and Russia received over 100 and 20 Vietnamese nationals, respectively, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
