HCMC – Lunar New Year (Tet) revelers from northern and central provinces can hardly book a ticket for flights to HCMC as the end of the Tet holiday has fueled mass migration back to the south of the country.
According to local media reports, all seats have been booked on flights from Haiphong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Quang Binh, and Gia Lai provinces to HCMC from February 15 to 19.
For the Hanoi-HCMC route, only business class tickets are available, with a one-way ticket costing nearly VND10 million.
Those without prior flight reservations seeking to travel to HCMC during this period will need to explore alternative travel arrangements.
Post-February 19, flight tickets become more accessible for these routes, but airfares remain high. For instance, one-way tickets from Haiphong to HCMC are priced at VND3.5 million, a similar rate seen for flights originating from Vinh, Thanh Hoa, and Thua-Thien Hue provinces to HCMC.
On the fifth day of Tet, Tan Son Nhat International Airport handled over 836 flights with nearly 148,000 passengers.
