HCMC – Mai Tien Dung, former chairman of the Government Office, has been detained over alleged wrongdoing in connection with a project in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.
Lieutenant General To An Xo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security, announced today, May 4, that the former minister Mai Tien Dung was charged with abusing powers while performing official duties.
Xo stated that Dung’s arrest was made as part of an expanded investigation into the case of bribery and abuse of powers in Lam Dong.
The decision to prosecute and detain Dung, former Party Central Committee member, was executed on April 30.
Mai Tien Dung, a 64-year-old native of Ha Nam Province, served as minister and head of the Government Office in the 2016-2021 term. He retired in April 2021.
Before his arrest, Dung received a warning from the Party Central Committee over his negligence in the Covid-19 repatriation flight case and a warning from the prime minister over his violations and shortcomings in his official duties.
Earlier this year, in the Dai Ninh Ecotourism Commercial Urban Area project, Tran Duc Quan Party secretary of Lam Dong Province, and Tran Van Hiep, former chairman of the Lam Dong People’s Committee, were arrested by police of the Ministry of Public Security on allegations of abusing powers while performing official duties and accepting bribes.
