HCMC – Four Vietnamese banks have joined the Alliance for Green Commercial Banks, a global initiative managed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) with total assets of more than US$5.6 trillion.

They are HCMC Development Joint Stock Commercial Bank (HDB), Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MSB), Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPB), and Orient Commercial Joint Stock Bank (OCB).

The IFC said the alliance connects commercial banks in emerging markets with global financial institutions and industry leaders to promote green banking. Its focus includes renewable energy, sustainable transport, circular economy, and climate adaptation projects.

The first 20 commercial banks selected for the alliance represent eight markets and were recognized for their market presence and commitment to sustainable finance, according to IFC.

Vietnam’s participation is seen as part of efforts by local banks to expand access to international green capital.
