HCMC – The Goethe Institute in Vietnam will hold the virtual German Film Week 2021 from tomorrow, August 28, until September 18, to entertain audiences in Vietnam, help them relax during the time of social distancing and teach them about the German culture.

The event will feature four German films—“Too Far Away”, “The Mover”, “Greetings from Fukushima” and “Mountain Miracle”. The films selected are very recently produced and capture the prevailing themes in Germany.

They will take the audience to Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture after an earthquake in 2011 or to Tyrol in Italy where the stubborn Amelie is dealing with her asthma.

Each week, a movie will be streamed online starting 8 p.m. on Saturday at https://goethe-on-demand.de.

“Too Far Away” directed by Sarah Winkenstette will open the German Film Week 2021.

The film centers around 11-year-old Ben, who has to move with his family from his home village to the next largest city after being relocated due to lignite mining.

In his new school, he meets another new boy, 12-year-old Tariq, a refugee from Syria. Ben is an outsider at the new school, while Tariq not only steals the show in class, but also on the soccer field. But the two boys have more in common than they would like, and quickly become friends.
