Farmers are entering the peak of the 2025–2026 winter–spring rice harvest, with golden fields stretching across southern Vietnam.

In Tay Ninh Province, harvesting has intensified over the past three weeks, with machines running steadily and farmers working from dawn to dusk. The hum of combine harvesters and tractors, mingled with conversation and laughter, creates a vivid picture of rural life in motion.

This year’s crop has delivered relatively strong yields, but the sense of abundance is tempered by rising costs and volatile market prices. Many farmers describe the season as a mix of optimism and concern, pleased with productivity yet uncertain about profits.

Fuel prices have increased harvesting costs, while rice prices have fallen compared with previous seasons. Even so, work continues across the fields, where straw is now collected and sold rather than burned, providing an additional source of income.

Harvesting is in full swing across rice fields in Tay Ninh as farmers enter the peak of the 2025–2026 winter– spring crop
Machines run continuously while farmers work amid golden rice fields ready for harvest
Despite strong yields, farmers say the season brings mixed feelings due to rising costs and uncertain prices
Many describe this harvest as “half joy, half worry,” pleased with output yet concerned about market conditions
Higher fuel prices have pushed harvesting and transport costs by about VND800,000-1,000,000 per hectare compared with the previous crop
Rice prices have fallen to around VND5,700-6,000 per kilogram, lower than last season
After harvesting, farmers continue working in the fields, collecting leftover straw
Instead of open burning, straw is now gathered and sold, providing additional income
Traders purchase each bale of straw for about VND7,000, converting farm byproducts into marketable goods
Large, round straw bales are transported to storage sites or loaded onto trucks for distribution
According to local authorities, during the 2025–2026 winter–spring crop, Tay Ninh planted 290,500 hectares of rice. To date, more than 89,000 hectares have been harvested, with an estimated yield of 6.57 tons per hectare and total output exceeding 585,000 tons.
