HCMC – The northern province of Hai Duong has imposed a lockdown on 36 local households in Thong Nhat Commune, Gia Loc District, aimed at preventing the spread of the virus, after it was recently confirmed that a Covid-19-infected person was living there.

The 73-year-old patient was declared as the country’s 1045th Covid-19 case on September 2, with the source of transmission being unknown. Thus, the district authorities set up three checkpoints and declared a lockdown at his area of residence, according to the local steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control.

Moreover, local health care workers collected samples of all the residents in the area for Covid-19 testing and took the patient’s wife to a quarantine center.

Following contact tracing results, the province discovered 24 persons who came into close contact with the patient and 99 others who interacted with these 24.

The Hai Duong Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that he had a fever 12 days ago but did not feel better after taking medication. He was taken to the Hoa Binh General Hospital in Hai Duong City on August 28 and the provincial General Hospital on August 30 for health checks and treatment.

The man was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi after he was confirmed as positive for the novel coronavirus.

Since the beginning of July until August 30, he did not have any contact with the 20 Covid-19 confirmed persons in the province and is not linked to the two coronavirus outbreaks in Hai Duong City. However, he visited his children in the city and travelled to Hanoi during this period.

On September 1, Hai Duong allowed local businesses and service providers such as retailers, hotels, restaurants, eateries and sports centers to resume normal operations after the social distancing order was lifted, but these businesses were asked to practice Covid-19 preventive measures.
