HCMC – Haiphong City is set to simultaneously break ground on and inaugurate 12 key projects on May 11 as part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Haiphong City’s liberation (May 13, 1955 – 2025), city officials said.
Haiphong officials were speaking at a press conference held in HCMC on May 2 by the Haiphong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
A key feature of the celebration is the coordinated groundbreaking and inauguration of 12 projects at 3:00 p.m. on May 11, conducted both in-person and online.
Work will start on four major projects, namely a social housing development in Dong Hai 2 Ward, Hai An District; the Terminal T2 and apron expansion project at Cat Bi International Airport (phase two); a new urban area development in Duong Kinh District and Kien Thuy District; and a five-star hotel in So Dau Ward, Hong Bang District.
Seven projects will be inaugurated, including the Haiphong political and administrative center; the Haiphong Convention and Performance Center, along with related technical infrastructure in the Bac Song Cam Urban Area; the Nam Cau Binh intersection project; phase 1 of the employee housing project for Pegatron Vietnam Co., Ltd.; infrastructure development at the Tien Cuong 2 Industrial Cluster; model new-style rural development projects in Dai Hop Commune; and the Singapore International Education Complex.
The city will break ground on an infrastructure investment project at the Trang Due 3 Industrial Park.
The city will also host the 2025 Red Flamboyant Festival under the theme “Haiphong – 70 years of faith and aspiration to rise up.” According to Tran Thi Hoang Mai, director of the department, the official opening ceremony of the festival will take place on the evening of May 13 at the political and administrative center square.
A highlight of the evening will be a fireworks display launched simultaneously from six locations across the city — a first for Haiphong. Three high-altitude firework displays will be staged at the political and administrative center in the Bac Song Cam New Urban Area, An Bien Lake Area, and the Vinhomes Vu Yen Urban Area Park and Square. Three low-altitude firework displays will be held at the backyard of the Haiphong City Opera House, the southern yard of the Duong Kinh District Administrative Center, and the Tien Lang District Stadium. Each site will be equipped with LED screens, sound, and lighting systems to serve both residents and visitors.
As part of the commemorative program, the city will organize 111 events spanning economics, culture, sports, and tourism, held in the central city area, district centers, and Thuy Nguyen City.
