HCMC – The Vietnam Defence Expo 2024 kicked off this morning, December 19, at Gia Lam airport in Hanoi, with the participation of more than 200 units and companies from over 30 countries and territories worldwide.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the expo’s role as a major international event that enhances foreign relations and defense cooperation for global peace and stability.
This is the second time Vietnam has organised the expo, following the inaugural event in 2022. It is one of the key events celebrating the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 35th anniversary of the All-People Defence Festival.
The four-day event, organized by the Ministry of National Defence, seeks to showcase achievements and experiences in weaponry and equipment research, production, and usage, while fostering defense industry cooperation among participating countries.
It includes over 200 units and companies from more than 30 countries across ASEAN, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Military powers like the United States, China, Russia, India, Israel, France, the United Kingdom, and Spain are also taking part.
The expo spans a total of over 100,000 square meters, with 15,000 square meters of indoor display space and more than 20,000 square meters of outdoor space.
Notably, Vietnam is displaying 69 types of equipment and weaponry from 77 units, showcasing products of the “self-reliant defense industry,” including the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel), Z111, Z113, Z131, Z175 factories, and companies under the Vietnam Defence Industry and the Ministry of National Defence.
The event will be open to the public from 9:00 am on December 21, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
It will also feature exchange programs to foster collaboration between agencies, units, and businesses, as well as among enterprises. Additionally, thematic workshops on military technology and activities highlighting achievements in defense cooperation will be held.
