Hanoi looks to become innovative city

HCMC – The Hanoi government has set a target to develop Hanoi into a smart, modern, clean, green and safe city and an innovative center, moving toward becoming one of Southeast Asia’s science and technology hubs.

The city identifies the development of science and technology and innovation as a decisive factor for its economic growth, the local media reported.

As such, the municipal government urged the city’s departments and agencies to boost scientific and technology development to make breakthroughs in the new stage.

In the coming months, the city will synchronously and broadly develop science, technology and innovation projects.

Hanoi City aims for digital economic growth to account for some 30% of the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in 2025 and nearly 35% in 2030.

The value of hi-tech-based agricultural production is targeted at over 70% of the total agricultural production value in 2025.

The capital city aims to have 12 tech workers out of 10,000 residents in 2025 and 14 in 2030, with a focus on developing the workforce at enterprises.

The municipal government tasked the relevant departments with fostering the science and technology market, improving the legal framework for investment in innovation, stimulating the supply and consumption of tech products, and promoting training for tech manpower.

Besides, Hanoi City will promote its role as the country’s science and technology center, building an information system and a database to connect with the Government and other cities and provinces.

A technology exchange will be built and become the national exchange to connect with others in the region and the world.
