HCMC – The HCMC government and the global drug firm AstraZeneca want to enhance cooperation in developing biotechnology, and vaccine and medical equipment production.

There are ample opportunities for healthcare cooperation between HCMC and AstraZeneca, said Phan Van Mai, chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, during a meeting with Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca, yesterday, April 12.

The city government pledges to provide favorable conditions for expanding local and international biopharmaceutical businesses.

Mai praised the efficacy of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, which has helped protect Vietnamese people against Covid.

Soriot said disease prevention and early detection remain the firm’s top priorities, in addition to the provision of sustainable development solutions.

AstraZeneca has promoted cooperation with many countries in technology transfer and digital transformation, he added.

The firm has committed US$310 million to Vietnam in the 2020-2030 period, focusing on enhancing human resources and fostering domestic biopharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities.
