HCMC – Trailer trucks will be banned from entering Nguyen Dinh Chieu and Vo Van Tan streets in downtown HCMC starting from December 31 to ease traffic jams and accidents, according to the HCMC Department of Transport.

Under the municipal department’s decision, trailer trucks are banned from traveling on the entire Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, which is four kilometers long, and not allowed to run on a two-kilometer section of Vo Van Tan Street from Cong Truong Quoc Te Street or Turtle Lake, to Cao Thang Street.

The decision came after the Roads Management Center banned trailer trucks from running on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Vo Thi Sau Streets in District 3 in early November. The ban helps ease traffic jams.

The department asked the Roads Management Center to work with the authorities of Districts 1 and 3 and traffic police to put the order into action, the local media reported.

Now, trailer trucks and vehicles weighing over 2.5 tons are permitted to enter downtown HCMC from 10.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m., while many inner-city routes remain busy between 10.00 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. each day.

A representative of the municipal department said that most factories and production facilities have relocated out of the heart of the city, so trailer trucks are not encouraged to enter downtown HCMC.
