HCMC – The comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Canada holds significant potential for further growth, according to Vo Van Hoan, vice chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee.

Speaking at the Canada Day celebration held in HCMC on June 26, Hoan underscored the rapid development of Vietnam-Canada relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973, including the upgrade to a comprehensive partnership in 2017.

He mentioned HCMC’s advantages in business environment and human resources, which can foster enhanced collaborative efforts between Vietnam and Canada.

Canada ranks as the 22nd largest investor in HCMC, with 119 projects worth nearly US$130 million. Trade between HCMC and Canada totaled US$520 million in 2023.

Annie Dubé, Canadian consul general in HCMC, expressed optimism about the growing relationship, particularly as Canada implements its Indo-Pacific Strategy, with Vietnam being a key partner.

Last year, bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded US$13 billion. Vietnam is currently Canada’s largest trading partner in ASEAN.
