HCMC – The HCMC Department of Health has proposed the municipal government adopt drastic Covid-19 infection prevention and control measures in line with the prime minister’s Directive 19 as the country is seeing a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Speaking at a meeting of the HCMC steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control on July 31, Nguyen Tan Binh, director of the municipal department, said that the city should temporarily ban gatherings with more than 20 participants.

Besides this, residents should stay at home and only go out if necessary. They should also maintain a safe physical distance of at least one meter, Tuoi Tre Online reported.

HCMC Vice Chairman Le Thanh Liem told the departments, agencies, districts and residents should remain vigilant due to the complicated development of the deadly coronavirus.

Apart from this, the vice chairman tasked the districts and municipal departments with closely cooperating with the HCMC Center for Disease Control to carry out Covid-19 tests on people who came into close contract with Covid-19 patients and those who have returned to the city from Danang City, which is now the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot.

HCMC also called on residents to inform the competent agencies of illegal entry into the city to avoid the potential community transmission of Covid-19.

Aside from this, Liem assigned the HCMC Department of Information and Communications to continue informing residents of Covid-19 infection prevention and control measures such as wearing face masks in public spaces and washing hands regularly.
