HCMC – The Teqball World Championship 2024 kicked off on Le Loi Boulevard in District 1, HCMC, on December 4, with 221 athletes from 95 countries and territories.
Running from December 3 to December 8, the sporting event features 301 matches across five categories, including men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. The matches are being held at Nguyen Hue pedestrian street in District 1.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, vice chairwoman of the People’s Committee of HCMC, said the city was proud to host the event, calling it an opportunity to promote sport development and cultural exchange.
Gábor Lehőcz, consul general of Hungary in HCMC, highlighted the role of the championship in strengthening Vietnam-Hungary relations, which mark 75 years in 2024.
Meanwhile, International Teqball Federation President Gábor Borsányi praised the city’s efforts, noting the record participation of athletes. He said the event reflected the growth of teqball and expected it to inspire future generations.
Cultural activities, including a mapping display titled “Hello Vietnam!” and an exhibit called “The Eastern House”, are being organized alongside the event. These aim to introduce athletes and visitors to Vietnamese culture and cuisine.
Teqball, a rapidly growing sport with millions of players worldwide, was recently included in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand and might make its way to the Olympics.
