HCMC – Businesses in HCMC have stocked up on VND20 trillion worth of goods for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, said deputy director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Nguyen Phuong.
Phuong told a press briefing on January 5 that of the total amount, enterprises participating in the price stabilization program had stockpiled products worth VND12 trillion to serve consumers during the 12th lunar month, the peak shopping season ahead of the Tet holiday.
Businesses have ensured they have an adequate stock of goods to satisfy the shopping demand of the local people, as required by the city’s authorities.
Nguyen added that many retail giants in the city are running various promotional campaigns in the run up to Tet.
Among them, the Saigon Co.op supermarket chain plans to arrange passenger coaches for taking employees to their hometowns at no charge to enjoy family reunion and offer a 15% discount on three million Tet gift sets and special deals for many food necessities such as pork, chicken, seafood, vegetables and fruits.
Satra, another supermarket and food store operator, has prepared goods worth some VND500 billion for Tet, up 10% year-on-year. It will also offer discounts of up to 49%, along with many other promotions.
Other retailers such as Go/Top Market, Bach Hoa Xanh and MM Mega Market have rolled out various promotional campaigns for Tet.
The Department of Industry and Trade will closely monitor the supply and demand of goods, especially essential items and those in demand or with price volatility, to take measures to ensure the supply-demand balance and market stability during the year-end period and Tet holiday, the deputy director added.
