HCMC – The HCMC health authority has been accelerating activities to monitor the development of Covid-19 in the community and at health care facilities, including asking returnees from pandemic-hit localities to make mandatory health declarations, comply with quarantine requirements and take Covid-19 tests.
Aside from returnees from the Danang coronavirus hotspot, residents returning to HCMC from provinces that have reported Covid-19 patients via community transmission, cases with unidentified sources of transmission or localities that have practiced social distancing have to declare their health status and be subjected to quarantine.
The city has also placed in quarantine people who had direct contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients and those entering Vietnam, and monitored individuals who had completed the mandatory quarantine period in other localities before returning to the city, according to the HCMC Center for Disease Control and Prevention (HCDC).
As of 7 a.m. today, August 19, the city reported 76 Covid-19 infections. Of them, 61 cases have fully recovered, nine are being monitored after recovery and 15 others are undergoing treatment, according to an HCDC report.
The center warned local residents of a possible risk of community transmission, advising them to stay cautious and continue to take Covid-19 safety measures seriously.
People should wear face masks while going out, wash hands regularly, avoid going to crowded places, maintain a safe physical distance from others, exercise regularly at home and maintain a balanced and healthy diet to boost the immune system.
To date, HCDC has monitored over 53,400 city dwellers who had returned from Danang between July 1 and 28 and reported no new Covid-19 cases during the second coronavirus wave in the country.
In addition, HCDC has put under surveillance all cabin crew members of international flights who are residing in the city, and took the samples of 4,025 people for Covid-19 testing.
