HCMC seeks PM’s permission to access Covid-19 vaccine sources on its own

Must read

HCMC – The HCMC government has written to the Prime Minister proposing allowing companies in the city to find Covid-19 vaccine supply sources and buy vaccines on their own to help the city swiftly realize its target of vaccinating 70% of its population against the coronavirus as soon as possible.

Under the proposal, the firms will be allowed to proactively contact and negotiate with Covid-19 vaccine producers and distributors worldwide to import the vaccines into Vietnam, Nguoi Lao Dong Online reported.

The municipal government also proposed the Prime Minister allow firms to sign contracts to hire competent organizations to vaccinate their employees.

The proposal was made as the daily count of new Covid-19 cases has continued to rise, said the HCMC government.

HCMC has over 7.2 million residents, with over 1.6 million workers in industrial and export processing zones. However, till date, the city has received a mere 140,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine. Over 64,360 people have got one shot while some 10,180 others have been fully vaccinated with two shots.

As such, to reach herd immunity as soon as possible, it is necessary to urgently purchase Covid-19 vaccines, while proactively accessing Covid-19 vaccine supply sources aligns with the Politburo’s and the Government’s policies in which firms, individuals and organizations are encouraged to find and buy Covid-19 vaccines.
