HCMC – The tourism sector of HCMC has reported a major boost during the Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, with total revenue estimated to reach VND7.69 trillion, a 17.4% increase against the same period last year.

The city has welcomed 87,358 international visitors since the nine-day holiday began late last week, a 16.5% rise from 2024, according to the HCMC Department of Tourism.

Domestic tourism has also seen a rise, with an estimated 2.1 million visits to local attractions and entertainment venues, up by 16.7% year-on-year.

Hotel occupancy averages around 65%, a great improvement from the previous Tet, indicating a strong recovery in the hospitality sector.

Travel agencies have reported a preference for both short and long trips, with a growing trend towards high-end resorts and “free and easy” travel packages, typically bundling flights and accommodation while allowing travelers freedom to arrange other activities.

The city’s festive atmosphere, highlighted by events like the Nguyen Hue Flower Street and the Binh Dong wharf flower market, reportedly contributed to the tourism boom.

Local authorities ensured security and safety for visitors, while businesses continued offering promotions and discounts.
