HCMC – HCMC will take down more than 400 trees to make room for Metro Line No. 2, which will connect Ben Thanh Market in District 1 and Tham Luong Depot in District 12.
The Management Authority for Urban Railways of HCMC (MAUR) has written to the Department of Transport, the Department of Construction, and relevant agencies regarding the commencement of the tree felling and relocation for the construction of the city’s second urban railway.
The project will intersect the streets of Le Lai, Truong Dinh, Pham Hong Thai, Cach Mang Thang Tam, and Truong Chinh, traversing districts 1, 3, 10, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu.
MAUR stated that the construction of underground metro stations in densely populated areas would require the felling and relocation of trees to facilitate the relocation of underground technical infrastructure systems, thereby minimizing disruptions to residents’ activities.
Accordingly, 453 trees will be affected by the project, with 404 slated for felling and 49 scheduled for relocation.
A two-phase plan has been mapped out by MAUR to manage the current greenery.
Phase 1 involves the felling or relocation of trees within the excavation area designated for the construction of new technical infrastructure systems. Trees on the sidewalks in the metro station area that do not interfere with technical infrastructure construction will be temporarily retained to provide shade.
Phase 2 requires the removal or relocation of all trees, with protective strategies in place for trees nearby this area.
