HCMC – The HCMC Department of Transport has announced a plan to operate five more waterways next year to diversify tourism services and satisfy the travel demand of guests.
They comprise two inner-city and three inter-provincial routes to Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and Tien Giang provinces.
The first inner-city route is around 13 kilometers long, running from Bach Dang Wharf in District 1 to District 7 and Nha Be District. Along the route, travelers can visit tidal barrages, commercial centers, and tourist sites.
With a total length of around 10 kilometers, the second inner-city route starts from Bach Dang Wharf to Thanh Da Peninsula in Binh Thanh District. Visitors can drop by several tourist attractions, shopping centers, and dining areas in Thao Dien District and Binh Quoi Tourist Villages 1 and 2.
Meanwhile, the waterway route to Binh Duong and Cu Chi is around 79 kilometers long, running through Thu Dau Mot City in Binh Duong, Ben Dinh and Ben Duoc wards in Cu Chi District.
Another waterway route connecting HCMC and Con Dao Island off Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province has a total length of around 225 kilometers. This route is planned to start from Saigon-Hiep Phuoc Port in Nha Be to the passenger port of Con Dao.
Currently, an enterprise has registered to operate a huge ferry on this route.
The other inter-provincial waterway route starts from Can Gio to Go Cong Dong District of Tien Giang Province. The ferry on this route is expected to accommodate 250 passengers, 100 motorbikes, and 100 cars or trucks.
Those five routes are all projected to be ready by 2024.
