HCMC – The resumption of waterbus services in HCMC after nearly four months of suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic has attracted many tourists, especially on the weekends.
The Saigon Waterbus route, linking Bach Dang Wharf in District 1 with Linh Trung Ward of Thu Duc City, has been reopened since October 16 after the city relaxed travel restrictions. The route is allowed to operate at no more than 50% of its capacity.
Thuong Nhat Company Limited, investor of the Saigon Waterbus route, said the company is offering 12 trips on the route everyday, with the first trip starting at 8:30 a.m.
A representative of the company said most of the customers are tourists who want to explore the city by waterbus, while the number of passengers using the route to travel to work has dropped significantly.
Passengers have to comply with anti-Covid-19 measures as regulated by the city’s Department of Health and Department of Transport such as wearing face masks, using hand sanitizers, keeping a safe distance from one another, and presenting a QR code that shows their vaccination status and health declarations.
“This is the first time I took a waterbus trip, and I liked it very much. It’s so wonderful to explore the city on a waterbus. I will tell everyone about this waterbus route and encourage my friends and family to take a waterbus trip,” Huynh Thu, a passenger, said.
Nguyen Quoc Toan, another passenger, said he could explore more city attractions through the waterbus service.
