HCMC – Soc Trang Province in the Mekong Delta yesterday, November 1, launched its Covid-19 vaccination campaign for school children, reportedly making it the first province in the delta to start the vaccination of children.

The province is planning to vaccinate all children at three to 17 years of age over a span of several months.

In the current vaccination campaign, nearly 31,600 students from the 10th to the 12th grades will be inoculated first, according to local news reports.

Nguyen Van Quan, Secretary of the Soc Trang City Party Committee, said high school students in the city would start getting their shots on the same day. The 12th graders would be vaccinated first, followed by the 11th graders and then the 10th.

According to the province’s vaccination plan, from this month to the first quarter of 2022, Soc Trang will fully vaccinate all children aged three to 17, including those with a temporary residence permit of at least six months in the province.

Specifically, from November 1 to 5, it is set to administer the first dose to children 16 to 17, or students from the 10th to the 12th grades. Between November 26 and 30, it will give them the second shot.

Students from the sixth to the ninth grades, aged 12 to 15, would get their first shots from December 1 to 6 and the second shots from December 26 to 30.

Children at three to 11 years of age are expected to get vaccinated in the first quarter of next year.

Tran Van Lau, chairman of the provincial government, evaluated the local health authority’s preparations and plan to vaccinate school children and asked the health authority to implement the vaccination campaign according to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines.
