HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 9,706 new Covid-19 cases, including 9,682 domestic infections in 34 cities and provinces today, September 25, sending the country’s Covid-19 tally to 746,678.
HCMC recorded the biggest number of new infections with 4,046 cases, followed by Binh Duong with 3,629, Dong Nai with 996, Long An with 193, Binh Phuoc with 147, An Giang with 117, Kien Giang with 91 and Tien Giang with 81, all in the south.
Ha Nam, Can Tho, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ben Tre, Ninh Thuan, Danang and Phu Yen detected 10-66 cases each. The remaining localities had less than 10 new infections each.
Ten provinces have spent one month without new infections.
Vietnam has recorded 742,175 domestic Covid-19 cases in the fourth wave of the pandemic since April 27.
Up to now, 516,449 Covid-19 patients in the country have fully recovered, including 10,590 people today. Meanwhile, there are currently more than 4,460 critically ill Covid-19 patients.
The Ministry of Health also confirmed 180 more Covid-19 fatalities this afternoon, including 123 in HCMC, 34 in Binh Duong, seven in Dong Nai and three each in An Giang, Tien Giang and Tay Ninh. Five other localities reported one or two fatalities each.
This took Vietnam’s Covid-19 death toll to 18,400.
The number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country has dropped significantly in recent days, from 236 two days ago to 203 yesterday and 180 today.
To date the country has administered over 37.5 million Covid-19 vaccine doses nationwide. However, only some 7.5 million people have received two doses.
Some 400,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine donated by Japan arrived at the HCMC-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport this morning.
The donation was announced by Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide on September 15, raising Japan’s total Covid-19 vaccine donation to Vietnam to around 3.58 million doses since June.
Besides, 900,000 doses of the Abdala Covid-19 vaccine produced by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Cuba were handed over to the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba on September 24.
On the same day, the Cuban Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces presented 150,000 doses of the Abdala vaccine to the Vietnamese defense attaché in Cuba.
