Helicopters deployed to assist flood victims

HCMC – The prime minister has ordered the deployment of various resources, including helicopters, to transport food and other necessities to residents in the areas impacted by the most recent typhoon and ensuing widespread flooding.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued an official telegram on September 10, addressing the aftermath of typhoon Yagi, the third storm that had hit the country this year, and subsequent severe flooding.

The PM asked the Party secretaries and government leaders in the affected provinces and cities to directly oversee and coordinate with relevant agencies in search and rescue operations for missing individuals, ensuring the utmost safety for all rescue personnel.

Local authorities are tasked with organizing the distribution of food, supplies, and essential goods to isolated areas, as well as providing temporary shelter for displaced households. They are also required to assess and report damages to households, businesses, and public infrastructure by September 12.

The Ministers of Defense and Public Security have been instructed to deploy forces and helicopters to deliver relief aid to cut-off areas.

The Minister of Health is responsible for ensuring medical treatment for the injured and adequate supplies of medicine and medical services in affected regions.

The Minister of Industry and Trade has been told to direct Vietnam Electricity Group and relevant agencies to swiftly repair power transmission and distribution infrastructure to restore electricity to affected areas, while also ensuring the availability of goods and market regulation to prevent the spread of low-quality products.

The Ministry of Education and Training will mobilize resources nationwide to support schools with teaching equipment, textbooks, and other necessary learning tools to facilitate the resumption of classes.

The Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs should coordinate with localities to assess flood damage and promptly provide food supplies to affected households.

The Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam is in charge of instructing credit institutions to proactively assess borrowers’ losses, implement incentive policies, and facilitate debt restructuring and extensions. These measures aim to support residents and businesses in resuming production and recovering from the impacts of the storm and flooding.

The Minister of Finance has directed organizations to implement policies for deferring, exempting, and reducing taxes, fees, and charges for those affected by the storms and floods, in line with regulations.

Additionally, insurance companies are urged to expedite compensation for policyholders, adhering to contract terms and legal requirements.
