HCMC – A tourist boat smashed into a huge ferry on the Tien River while it was cruising at high speed, leaving three tourists severely injured.
The accident occurred at around 5:00 p.m. on April 19 in the Tien River section in Vinh Xuong Commune, Tan Chau Town, An Giang Province, according to a report by Vinh Xuong Commune Police.
The ferry, identified as 99K AG-21477 and operated by Vo Van Nhan, a 49-year-old resident in Phu Tan District, An Giang Province, was crossing the river from Thuong Phuoc 1, Dong Thap Province towards Vinh Xuong, An Giang Province.
The Hang Chau tourist express boat, identified as AG-23338 and operated by Phan Thanh Duoc, a 42-year-old resident in Chau Phu District, An Giang Province, was traveling very fast from the border area towards Tan Chau Town, with 42 tourists and three crew members on board, when it collided with the ferry.
The tourist boat showed no sign of slowing down when it hit the bow of the ferry.
The collision caused severe damage to the left side of the tourist boat. Ab Dol Ro Zak, 1988, a resident in An Giang Province, sustained severe injuries, including the amputation of his right arm and fractures in both legs.
Two foreign tourists, German Koehler Dietmar Heinz, born in 1957, and French national Kormann Pascale Aline, born in 1967, suffered left leg fractures.
Following the accident, Vinh Xuong Commune Police provided assistance in transporting the injured to Tan Chau Hospital, An Giang, for emergency treatment.
On the evening of April 19, the provincial authorities of An Giang towed the tourist boat and the ferry to the shore for investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
