DANANG – The central province of Thua Thien-Hue will offer an open-top bus service for tourists starting from September 1, using at least 10 roofless buses, including three double-deckers and seven single-deckers.
This is the first time Hue is providing this service for visitors day and night. The trial service will be available until the amended road traffic law comes into force or until December 31, 2025, according to the provincial Tourism Promotion Information Center.
The provincial government assigned the Department of Transport to work with the Vietnam Tourism – Hanoi JSC and relevant agencies to complete procedures for licensing and piloting double-decker buses from August 25 to 30 before an official operation on September 1.
Previously, the company wrote to the People’s Committee of Thua Thien-Hue proposing a project to launch the open-top double-decker service on a trial basis to promote local tourism.
Accordingly, high-quality routes will be constructed with convenient connection routes between the attractions, historical relics and scenic spots of Hue City.
Pick-up and drop-off stops will also be designed conveniently for tourists to access historical sites and sightseeing spots.
The facilities will be customized with a personal logo and a convenient seating arrangement. An automatic tour guide system will also be equipped with GPS technology.
Duong Thi Cong Ly, director of Vietnam Tourism – Hanoi JSC in Hue, said there would be three pilot routes offering the roofless double-decker service.
Of them, the “City tour – Hue heritage journey” will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 05:20 p.m. daily with 12 stops. The others are the “City tour – City center” and the “Hue night view route”.
Besides, Tran Huu Thuy Giang, chief of the provincial government office, said an additional seven smaller open-top single-deck buses will be operated from September 1.
These buses would be painted purple, Hue’s signature color, and put into service from August 25, he added.
