HCMC – Around 100 firefighters and a dozen fire trucks were mobilized to extinguish a blaze that broke out at a waste facility of an environmental company in Thuan An City in the southern province of Binh Duong this morning, October 22.

The fire began at 6.00 a.m. on the same day and quickly spread through the waste facility covering an area of thousands of square meters due to inflammable waste, creating a giant column of black smoke.

The black smoke, coupled with the unpleasant odor of chemicals, made it hard for many locals to breathe, the local media reported.

Several residents who live near the facility had to evacuate their possessions from their homes due to fears the fire would spread.

After an hour of fighting the fire, the flames were finally put out. Hundreds of square meters were gutted, while equipment and materials were damaged. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
