HCMC – Vietnam imported over 79,700 tons of meat and meat products worth US$250.9 million from India in the first half of 2022, making the latter the former’s largest meat supplier, according to the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Statistics from the department indicated that between January and June, Vietnam’s import of meat products from India rose by 20.9% in volume and 17.8% in value year-on-year, the local media reported.
Vietnam mainly bought frozen buffalo meat, chicken thighs and meat, and beef from India during the six-month period.
In the first half of the year, Vietnam imported some 289,400 tons of meat and meat products worth US$648.5 million from 47 nations and territories, down 13.6% in value from the same period last year.
The country’s import of pork and pork products in the first six months of 2022 plunged by 44% in volume and 48.7% in value year-on-year at 45,180 tons, worth US$95.9 million.
On the export side, Vietnam shipped 8,590 tons of meat and meat products worth US$34.7 million to 25 nations and territories, down 9.4% in volume and 1.9% in value year-on-year.
Hong Kong was Vietnam’s biggest meat buyer during the January-June period, with a value of US$17.7 million, worth of 3,440 tons, down 42% in volume and 29.5% in value against the same period last year.
