HCMC – The Ministry of Industry and Trade has assured that the electricity sector will refrain from power cuts, except in emergencies.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien issued Document No. 3427 to the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) and Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), emphasizing the importance of maintaining a steady power supply during peak periods this year and beyond, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The ministry addressed recent social media reports suggesting that power companies were asking foreign manufacturers to voluntarily reduce electricity usage. It clarified that these claims are inaccurate and reiterated the Government’s commitment to avoiding power cuts or regulations, except in emergencies.

On May 22, EVN confirmed that the social media reports were incorrect. The company stated that it has prepared various scenarios to ensure a stable power supply since late 2023 and assured that it has not and does not plan to reduce electricity usage for customers.

EVN has updated its plans to meet the rising electricity demand in June and the following months. The company said it has operational strategies in place to ensure a continuous power supply, supporting economic growth and public needs in all situations.
