HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has authorized the temporary operation of international freight lines at the Kep Railway Station in the mountainous province of Bac Giang, beginning mid-February.
The station’s international operation is planned to facilitate trade for local enterprises in Bac Giang and nearby provinces.
This is an effort to ease rising congestion at Dong Dang and Yen Vien railway stations given a recent surge in goods transportation demand, according to Dang Sy Manh, general director of Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR).
Manh said the freight volume passing through the Kep Railway Station is expected to exceed 1.6 million tons.
VNR previously upgraded the station’s 17,000-square-meter warehouse and improved other technical infrastructure facilities, including two container gantry cranes.
Local officials intend to service 80-100 containers daily in the initial phase, primarily electronics, construction materials, and industrial wood items.
The Kep Railway Station is in Kep Township, Lang Giang District. It currently has nine railway tracks and at least five freight yards and warehouses.
