HCMC – A day after reporting one locally-transmitted Covid-19 case amid the resurgence of the virus, the authority of Khanh Hoa Province decided to suspend all festivals and non-essential services starting from 12 a.m. today, August 10, to prevent the spread of the disease.

Moreover, the south-central province has temporarily stopped festivals, religious events, wedding parties and large gatherings of over 20 people in public places. It also shut down non-essential businesses including bars, clubs and karaoke and massage parlors, according to a telegram signed by Nguyen Dac Tai, vice chairman of Khanh Hoa.

Local residents were urged to maintain a distance of at least one meter from each other and limit non-essential outings.

Besides this, it ordered the provincial Tourism Department and relevant agencies to survey and choose proper hotels for quarantining health care workers who will join the fight against Covid-19.

A few days ago, the province requisitioned 11 hotels with some 2,000 rooms as quarantine facilities for foreigners who are experts, investors and highly-skilled employees entering Vietnam.

According to data from the Tourism Department, Khanh Hoa welcomed over 1.5 million tourists in July, which was double the figure of June.

Last month, the hotel room occupancy rate of three- to five-star hotels exceeded 13% and that of one- to two-star ones reached 6.5%. Meanwhile, in the previous months, the rates remained low, even less than 1% at times.

However, due to the Covid-19 resurgence in the country late last month, many tourists canceled their booked tours.

Tran Viet Trung, director of the Tourism Department, estimated that some 80% of tourists planning to visit the locality, equal to 200,000 arrivals, had canceled tours.
