HCMC – The HCMC Union of Friendship Associations (HUFO) and the Vietnam-Netherlands Friendship Association in HCMC today, April 21, organized a ceremony to mark the King’s Day of the Netherlands.

The King’s Day is a Dutch national day celebrating the birthday of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.

The event also marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands and the first anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-Netherlands Friendship Association in HCMC.

Tran Trong Dung, chairman of the Vietnam-Netherlands Friendship Association in HCMC, said that bilateral relations between the two nations have grown strongly, especially in trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges.

Daniel Stork, consul general of the Netherlands in HCMC, said the two countries have made efforts to enhance cooperation in many key aspects, including sustainable agriculture and water resource management.

In 2022, the Netherlands was Vietnam’s second largest European Union trade partner, with two-way trade reaching US$11.1 billion, soaring by 32.6% year-on-year.

Dung said last year saw two-way trade between HCMC and the Netherlands totaled US$1.6 billion. The Netherlands was the EU largest investor of Vietnam with some 400 projects worth US$14.8 billion, with HCMC accounting for 185 projects capitalized at more than US$5 billion, he added.
